Men's Basketball Team Wins Second Tourney in Three Weeks
The MSJC men's basketball team won the Saddleback Tournament Championship over the weekend giving them their second tournament title in three weeks.
The Eagles who have reached the finals in three straight tournaments defeated Cypress, Long Beach, and El Camino on their way to the championship in Mission Viejo. In Friday's semi-final game with Long Beach the Eagles used 18 points and 8 rebounds from Montreal Harris to hold off the Vikings 69-66. Josh Gouch added 9 points for MSJC while Greg Dixon pulled down 12 rebounds to go along with his 6 points.
In Saturday's Championship game the Eagles defeated the El Camino who came into the game ranked #7 in the state. Harris was once again the Eagles top scorer with 18 points he also hauled in 9 rebounds. Anthony Dees added 16 points for MSJC. Harris was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player while Dees was named to the All Tournament Team.
The Eagles are now 10-3 on the season and currently ranked #10 in the state, a ranking that is likely to improve when the latest rankings are released tomorrow. MSJC will be off for a week, before playing their home opener on December 30th when they host Pasadena City College. The Pasadena game, which tips off at 7 pm, will be the Eagles final tune up before starting Foothill Conference play on January 4th when they host San Bernardino Valley.
