Men's Hoops Keeps it Rolling With Win Over Saddleback
The MSJC men's basketball team won their fifth in a row on Thursday night as they defeated Saddleback 79-74 on the second day of the Riverside City College Holiday Classic.
The Eagles fought to a three point halftime lead of 35-32, but fell behind by as much as 7 in the second half and didn't take the lead for good until there was just 1:07 to play in the game when Israel Farrington connected on a lay-up to give MSJC a 74-72 lead. C.J. Hyder would add a late three point play on an assist from Luka Filipovic to push the lead to 77-72 with 27 seconds remaining.
In the victory the Eagles saw four players reach double figures in scoring led by David Thompson who had a game high 24 points on 9 of 14 shooting from the field. Thompson connected on 4 of his 8 three point attempts in the contest. Filipovic added 14 points and 8 rebounds while Hyder finished the night with 13. Deshawn Millington had 12 points and 6 boards for the Eagles.
The win improves MSJC to 10-1 on the season and they will take the day off before wrapping up the RCC Holiday Classic on Saturday at 4 pm when they take on the host team Tigers. This will be the second meeting between MSJC and RCC in 8 days. The Eagles defeated the Tigers at the Hemet Valley Kiwanis Hoops & Crops Classic last Friday 87-80.
