Men's Hoops Opens Season With Two Wins

The MSJC men's basketball team traveled to San Luis Obispo this past weekend and came away with a pair of wins to start their 2018-19 season.LukaforCuesta-18-19.jpg

The Eagles opened up on Saturday with a hard fought 71-65 win over College of the Sequoias.  MSJC led by four at the half but COS was able to keep it close the entire way before the Eagles secured the victory.  David Thompson led the MSJC offense with 19 points on Saturday while Luka Filipovic added 12 and Deshawn Millington reached double figures with 11.

Sunday MSJC made their​ move about halfway through the second half to pull away from West Hills Coalinga for an 84-68 victory.  This time it was Filipovic who led the way for the Eagles with 24 points, while Lenzell Simmons and Thompson both had 11.  Millington hit double figures as well for the second straight day with 10.

For their efforts on the weekend Filipovic and Thompson were named to the All-Tournament Team.

The wins get MSJC off to a 2-0 start on the season, they will be back in action on Friday when they travel to Whittier to take on Rio Hondo College in a 5 pm game.

MSJC's Luka Filipovic had a pair of solid games at the Cuesta College Classic this weekend as he led the Eagles to wins over Sequoias and West Hills Coalinga.  Filipovic and David Thompson were named to the All-Tournament team.
