Men's Hoops Set For Play-Off Opener

The MSJC men's basketball team will kick off the 2018 post season on Friday night when they travel to Costa Mesa to take on Orange Coast College in a 7 pm 2nd round Regional contest.IzforOCCpreview-18.jpg

The Eagles enter the game with a season record of 14-15, they finished Pacific Coast Athletic Conference North Division play tied for 2nd place with a league mark of 5-3.  This year's second place finish ended a run of four straight conference titles for MSJC.  The Eagles are led on offense by sophomore Davon Sanders who will enter the post season averaging a team high 17.9 points per game as well as a team high 5.9 rebounds per contest.  Freshman point guard David Thompson is second in scoring for MSJC at 9.7 points a game while he leads the team in assists at 3 per game.  A.J. Walton and C.J. Hyder are next in scoring for the Eagles at 9.3 and 8.7 points per contest respectively.  MSJC played one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the State as well as playing in the much improved PCAC North which qualified four of their six teams for the post season.  In all the Eagles played 19 of their 29 games against teams who earned a berth in the State play-offs.

Orange Coast is enjoying a historic season as they won their first conference championship in 40 years by going 11-1 in the Orange Empire Conference.  The Pirates finished the year going 20-7 overall.  OCC has three players that carry most of the load on offense led by Joshua Davis who will enter the play-offs averaging 17.7 points per game as well as a team best 9 rebounds.  Lloyd Wright and Kuppa Harrison aren't far behind as they average 15.8 and 15.3 points per night.

Friday's contest is a second round CCCAA Southern California Regional contest with the winner playing the winner of Saturday night's game between San Diego Miramar and Citrus in the Regional Final.

Ticket prices are set by the California Community College Athletic Association and are as follows; $12 general admission and $8 for students, faculty, senior citizens, and children 12 and under.
