The MSJC men's basketball team won three straight home games over the weekend to capture the championship of the Hemet Valley Kiwanis Hoops and Crops Tournament.
Thursday the Eagles kicked off the tourney with a 90-75 win over Lassen College. Devin Fleming led a balanced MSJC attack with 28 points, he also had 5 steals. Tre Nottingham added 19 points while Carl Brown had 14. Roosevelt Adams recorded a double double with 14 points and a tournament record 19 rebounds.
In Friday's semi-final game the Eagles defeated Yuba College 78-65. Once again four Eagles hit double figures in scoring this time led by Nottingham's 21. Nottingham also dished out a game high 8 assists in the victory. Kendall Brown had 13 points and Fleming and Adams both had 12.
In Saturday night's championship game MSJC held off a tough fight from Chaffey to win 90-81. Nottingham again led the way for the Eagle offense with 20 points. Fleming added 17 and 6 assists while Adams had his second double double of the tourney with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Carl Brown added 10 points in the win.
For his efforts on the weekend Nottingham was named MVP of the tournament. Adams and Fleming both earned All Tournament honors.
The Eagles are now 8-1 on the season. MSJC will return to action this week when they play in the Riverside City College Holiday Tournament. The Eagles open the tourney on Tuesday with a game against Compton at 5pm.
