Men's Hoops Wins to Earn 10th Straight 20 Win Season

The MSJC men's basketball team won 93-88 on Friday night in Oceanside over Mira Costa to earn their 20th win of the season, marking the 10th straight year the Eagles have reached the 20 wincutisweathersforcosta3-17.jpg
plateau.

MSJC was able to build a lead of 44-33 by halftime behind a strong first half performance by Carl Brown.  Brown scored 17 of his game high 23 points in the first 20 minutes.  The Eagles had to hold off a couple of runs from the Spartans down the stretch, but 28 of 34 free throw shooting allowed MSJC to keep their lead.  Jaryn Taylor had a double double for the Eagles with 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Tre Nottingham also recorded a double double with 19 points and 10 rebounds despite a tough shooting night for the 2016 PCAC North Player of the Year.  Curtis Weathers came off the bench to add 17 points in the win for MSJC while Jeremy Bonifacio just missed double digits with 9 points.

The win improved the Eagles to 20-10 overall on the season and they are now 6-2 in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference North Division standings.  San Diego Miramar lost to Palomar on Friday so MSJC has now moved into sole possession of second place, two games behind San Bernardino Valley with two regular season games remaining.  The Eagles who have won three straight PCAC North titles are going to need some help to win their fourth straight.  MSJC will host College of the Desert on Wednesday as they celebrate "Sophomore Night".  The Eagles will then wrap up the regular season at San Bernardino Valley on Friday.  Wednesday's home game is set to tip off at 7 pm.
