Men's Hoops Win Two in Elks Tip-Off Classic


The Mt. San Jacinto men's basketball team opened the season this weekend with a pair of victories in the Hemet Elks Tip-Off Classic.

Friday night the Eagles got out to an early lead and never looked back beating Southwestern College 89-60. Sophomore Dejuan Flowers led the way scoring 19 points and pulling down 9 rebounds. Marc Wilson (13), Lee Stephens (12), Tim Island (12), and Raymond Williams (11) all joined Flowers in double figures.

Saturday afternoon the Eagles won a showdown with Riverside Community College 76-64. This time it was Raymond Williams leading the way with 16 points. Lee Stephens, Dejuan Flowers and Marc Wilson once again reached double figures for MSJC. The Eagles who trailed by four at the half out rebounded the Tigers 45-34 on the afternoon and outscored RCC 49-33 in the second half.

The Eagles who now stand at 2-0 will travel to Southwestern this weekend for a 6 pm Friday game against the Jaguars followed by a Saturday afternoon game against Miramar at 3 pm. The Eagles next home contest is Tuesday November 27th when they take on Miracosta College.
