Offensive Second Half Carries Men's Hoops to Victory
The MSJC men's basketball team scored 56 points in the second half on Thursday night as they picked up a 94-82 win over Chaffey in their opening game of the Hemet Valley Kiwanis Hoops & Crops Classic.
MSJC used a very balanced offensive scoring attack as five players scored between 13 and 20 points in the game. Lenzell Simmons led all scorers in the game with 20 points off the bench as he went 7 for 12 from the field and connected on a pair of three pointers. Deshawn Millington nearly had a double double as he scored 19 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Israel Farrington did get his double double as he ended his night with 13 points and 10 rebounds. C.J. Hyder added 18 points by hitting 6 three pointers in the win and Luka Filipovic added 15 points and 7 boards.
The teams were tied at 38 a piece at the half and then after a quick start by Chaffey to open the second MSJC seized control of the game with 12:14 to play when Simmons got a dunk off an assist from David Thompson to put the Eagles ahead 58-57. MSJC would not trail again in the game.
The win improves MSJC to 7-1 on the season. The Eagles will be right back in action tonight in the final day of the Kiwanis Hoops & Crops Classic when they take on Riverside at 7 pm.
