Second Half Carries Men's Hoops Past Palomar
The MSJC men's basketball team picked up their 19th win of the season on Wednesday night as they defeated visiting Palomar 79-60 in a PCAC North contest.
The Eagles and the Comets played a very competitive first half with MSJC taking a 34-33 lead into the locker room, before the Eagles methodically stretched out the lead in the second twenty minutes for the victory. MSJC used a very balanced offensive attack on the evening with five players reaching double figures in scoring and one more coming up just short with 9 points. The Eagles were led by Carl Brown who scored a team high 17. Brown had 15 of his 17 in the second half to help secure the victory on five made three points shots. Jaryn Taylor added a double double for MSJC as he scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Jeremy Bonifacio kept the Eagles in it in the first half as he scored 11 of his 13 points in the first. Tre Nottingham added 12 points and Mat Bradshaw had 10 in the victory. Curtis Weathers came up just short of double figures with 9.
The win improved MSJC to 19-10 on the season and kept them in a second place tie in the conference with San Diego Miramar at 5-2. The Eagles will be right back in action on Friday when they travel to Oceanside to take on Mira Costa. Friday's game is set to tip off at 5 pm. MSJC will return home for their final regular season home game next Wednesday February 15th when they host College of the Desert for Sophomore Night. Game time on the 15th is 7 pm.
