Springer to Return to Men's Basketball for 2015-16 Season

MSJC Dean of Physical Education and Athletics Patrick Springer, will return as the Eagles head men's basketball coach for the upcoming 2015-16 year after one season away from the floor.springerreturn2.jpg

Springer had served as the head coach for 11 seasons, before stepping away last Fall.  "After careful consideration and the completion of some critical projects, I have decided to return to coaching", said Springer.  Curriculum development, the completion of the new softball field on the Menifee Campus, and the hiring of some key personnel within the Athletic Department were some of the things that Springer was able to get done in his time away from the team.  "Another critical thing was the passing of our facilities bond, Measure AA", said Springer, "I wanted to be able to  spend my after hours time doing whatever I could to help make sure that it was successful."

Trent Skinner, who took over this past season as the interim head coach, had a very strong year leading the Eagles to their second straight conference title and an appearance in the Southern California Regional Semi-Finals.  Skinner earned co-Coach of the Year honors in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference North Division after his team went 23-8 for the year.  "I want to thank Trent for stepping in on such short notice and doing such a good job with this team," added Springer.  "I am very proud of what Trent and the team were able to accomplish this season."  Skinner will stay on board as the Associate Head Coach for MSJC.

Springer, who has compiled a head coaching record of 312-162 in 15 years of California Community College basketball, is back on the job as of now and is in the middle of recruiting season.  "I'm excited about getting back in the gym with the players and working directly with them on things on and off the floor."
