Strong First Half Lifts Men's Hoops Past RCC

The MSJC men's basketball team got off to a fast start on Friday night and kept the lead in second half to defeat visiting Riverside 87-80 on the final day of the Hemet Valley Kiwanis Hoops & Crops Classic.DavidThompsonRCC-18.jpg

The Eagles continue to use a very balanced offensive attack this season as Friday night four players reached double figures in the victory.  Deshawn Millington led the way for the MSJC offense with 22 points, he had 10 in the first half to help the Eagles grab a 45-29 lead after the first 20 minutes.  C.J. Hyder showed off his​ outside shot as he hit four three pointers on his way to 20 points on the evening.  David Thompson added 17 points and 7 assists in the win while Lenzell Simmons continued to play well off the bench as he added 12 points.

The Eagles, who are currently ranked #4 in the State and #2 in Southern California, improved to 8-1 with the victory while the Tigers shoe entered the game ranked #12 in So. Cal fell to 5-3.

MSJC will be back in action for three games this week all to be played at 4 pm at RCC.  The Eagles open the Riverside Holiday Tournament with a game against Copper Mountain on Wednesday.  MSJC will then take on Saddleback Thursday, before wrapping up the round robin tourney with a rematch against Riverside on Saturday.
