Golf Team 7th at Regionals, Two Qualify for State
The MSJC men's golf team finished in seventh place on Monday at the CCCAA Southern California Regional, two individuals shot low enough scores to qualify for next week's State Finals.
Richard Schweitzer and Kieran Blundell both advanced for the Eagles into the State Championships on Monday after shooting 152 and 149 respectively over two rounds at El Camino Country Club. Blundell's 149 earned him a Top Six Medalist finish as he turned in a 79 in the morning round and then shot the low round of the tournament with a 70 in the afternoon session. Schweitzer also improved in his afternoon round as he carded a 71 after he shot 81 in the morning. This will be the first time that MSJC has two individuals compete at the State Tournament, and it is the first time since 2002 that any MSJC player has qualified for the State Finals.
In the Regional on Monday the Eagles as a team shot a two round total of 788, they shot 412 in the morning and 376 in the afternoon. After Blundell and Schweitzer, next up for MSJC was Tyler Galleher who had a two round score of 160. Both Bernard Campos and Sam Proctor shot 165 while Vincent Brunet had a 167. MSJC finished just three strokes behind sixth place College of the Desert. This was the second straight season that the Eagles had qualified as a team for the Regional Tournament.
The State Championships will be a 36 hole event played at Cypress Ridge Golf Club in Arroyo Grande on Monday May 15th.
