Men's Golf Starts 2017 Season With Tournament Win
The MSJC men's golf team kicked off their 2017 season with an impressive win at the two day Point Conception Tournament held at La Purisma Golf Course in Lompac.
The Eagles shot a two day total of 762 to take first place while Cypress College finished second and Santa Barbara City College placed third. MSJC was consistent over the 36 holes as both rounds the Eagles recorded a team score of 381.
Sophomore Richard Schweitzer led the way for MSJC with a two day score of 147, he shot 74 in the first round and followed it up with a 73 in the second. Kieren Blundell's two round score of 151 was second for the Eagles as he carded the team's best round of the tournament with a 72, he was able to follow that up with a 79 on Monday. Tyler Galleher went 79-74 over his first two rounds of the season for MSJC. Austin Crenshaw shot 76-78 for a total of 154 while Sam Proctor improved by eight strokes from round one to round two shooting 85-77. Vincent Brunet was also solid in the season opener as he carded an 80 and a 79 to round out the Eagles scoring.
MSJC is coming off a season in which they finished second in conference play and set a school record for wins in a season with 42. The Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday when they take part in the Orange Empire Classic to be held at Los Serranos Golf Club.
