Schweitzer and Blundell Compete at CCCAA State Finals
MSJC men's golfers Richard Schweitzer and Kieran Blundell both competed on Monday at the CCCAA State golf championships at Cypress Ridge Golf Course in Arroyo Grande.
Both Blundell and Schweitzer had solid morning rounds as each turned in a 77, which was seven strokes off the best first round score turned in by College of the Canyons Jae Kim. The weather turned a little nasty as the day went on and in tough conditions for the afternoon round Schweitzer was able to battle his way to an 82 while Blundell shot 92. Dylan Hall of Cypress College was able to stay consistent in the two round event and won the individual state title by shooting 73 and 74. Schweitzer ended the tournament tied for 22nd with a two round total of 159, while Blundell finished 43rd at 169. Sixty golfers in total took part in the tournament. Canyons took home the team state title.
Monday's event wrapped up another very successful season for the Eagles golf team as they finished second in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference and for the second straight season qualified as a team for the CCCAA Southern California Regional. Schweitzer and Blundell reaching the State individual meet is the first time in program history that two MSJC golfers reached that feat in the same season. Schweitzer earned PCAC Player of the Year honors for carrying the low scoring average during conference play and Blundell earned a Top Six medalist honor for his play at the Regional Tournament.
