Eagle Men's Tennis Team Shines at Ojai

This past weekend was an historic one for the MSJC Mens Tennis program as the eagles competed at the prestigious Ojai Tournament in Oxnard and Ojai. Taylor Witt Doubles Team at Ojaiand Richard Tetteh made history for the eagles and became the very 1st doubles to reach the mens community college doubles final. Together Taylor and Richard defeated some of the very best teams in the entire state of california community college doubles. It was an incredible ride to the finals as the duo had to face a very motivated Glendale College team in the quarter-finals and then a very talented team from College of the Desert in the semi-finals. Witt and Tetteh withstood the competition and played some incredible tennis to reach the finals at Libby Park in the beautiful town of Ojai, where they played alongside some of the best collegiate players from every division including USC and UCLA! In the final they would face a familiar foe in Doug Edwards and Jason Wall whom haved played #1 doubles for South Coast Conference for Cerritos College for the past 2 years. Edwards and Wall reached the semi's of the Ojai Tournament last year and were runner-ups at last years State tournament in Doubles. The Cerritos Team played absolutely perfect tennis and showed very little margin for error as they easily defeated Taylor and Richard by the score of 6-0 6-1. Neverthless, it was a great tournament and the eagles can hold their head high knowing that they played themselves into the history books at the Ojai tournament as doubles finalists.
Taylor Witt had an excellent run in the singles draw at the Ojai tournament, reaching the semi-finals after knocking off the #10 and 2 seeded players in the singles draw. In the semi-final match up Taylor faced a very tough opponent from Fresno City College, Joao Noguiera whom was seeded #6. Taylor played hard but was hampered by a sore foot which affected his movement on the court and also gave his opponent a slight edge losing the match by the score of 6-3, 6-1. Regardless, Taylor had a great run into the last day of the Ojai tournament, which had never been accomplished before from a singles player representing the MSJC Mens Tennis program.
MSJC placed 2nd overall in the team championships behind College of the Desert at the Ojai Tournament. Congratulations goes out to Taylor Witt, Richard Tetteh, Bruno Reich and Carlos Marquez whom represented the eagles with excellent play this past weekend!
