Eagle Tennis Rolls on in Play-Offs

MSJC Defeats Cerritos College in quarterfinals of state playoffs 5-2.
MSJC Mens Tennis hosted Cerritos College in the 1st round of the Southern California Dual Team Playoffs. The Eagles were seeded #4 at the dual team regional seeding meeting and the Falcons were seeded #5. Play began at 2pm this past tuesday afternoon and was a rematch from a couple months ago when MSJC defeated visiting Cerritos College 6-3. In the playoff format the first team to 5 points wins the match and play is halted as the 5 point lead is unsurmountable.
The singles play proved to be just as instense as the first time these two teams played during a regular season match up back on Feb 15th. After 2 hours of match play the eagles held a 4-2 lead going into the doubles lineup. Victor Bittar, Mensford Owusu, James Bragg and Anderson Ribeiro each won their matches in straight sets with some very strong performances! The doubles was not an easy task as Cerritos College did not want to see their season come to an end! Nevertheless, it was the eagles whom prevailed when the doubles team of Bragg and Valadares won their match 6-2 6-4.
The mens team will now prepare for a rematch with Cypress College next tuesday April 26th at Cypress College. Cypress was seeded #1 at the regional seeding meeting and won their 1st round match-up against Glendale College this past tuesday 5-2. The Eagles will be ready to put their best games on the line in their biggest match of the season!
Next tuesday's semi-final socal dual team match will be the 4th year consecutively that MSJC has advanced to this stage of the playoffs.
