MSJC Falls to Cerritos

The MSJC mens tennis team battled hard but ultimately came up a little short in the much anticipated rematch against Cerritos College last Thursday at home. After falling behind 3-2 in the singles rotation the lone match remaining was at the #1 spot between Taylor Witt and Doug Edwards (cerritos college). This singles match was decided in the 3rd set super tie-breaker and unfortunately went to Cerritos College. This put the eagles in a very tough position having to sweep the doubles in order to win the match which was not meant to be as the #2 and 3 doubles teams fell in very hard fought matches. Emmanuel Mensah and Taylor Witt remained undefeated in doubles at the #1 spot winning 10-4 in the 3rd set super tie-break. Kenny Hotchkiss and Richard Tetteh finally tasted defeat for the 1st time this season in doubles match play going down in a 2 very tight sets by the score of 6-4 6-4 . This loss put MSJC in a tie with Cerritos College for 2nd place in conference play behind 1st place College of the Desert.
The Eagles returned to action against Orange Coast College last friday in Costa Mesa. It was another tough match but this time the eagles emerged victorious in a very competitive non-conference dual match. After taking 4 of the singles matches the eagles headed into the doubles rotation needing only 1 point to seal the victory. #1 and #3 doubles teams consisiting of Emmanuel Mensah, Taylor Witt, Kenny Hotchkiss and Richard Tetteh continued to play strong in non-conference match ups this season.
Today the Eagles mens tennis team traveled to Victor Valley College for a 2nd round South Coast Conference dual match and completely dominated from beginning to end even without 3 of their top players. Tyler Park continued to play strong in singles registering a convincing 6-0 6-0 singles victory. Kenny Hotchkiss and Richard Tetteh stepped up to the #1 doubles spot and had little trouble continuing their dominance in conference play. The eagles get some rest this thursday and then continue conference play next tuesday at home against El Camino College. Please come out and support the mens tennis team, match time is at 2pm!
