Owusu and Jaimes Reach Ojai Doubles Final
Mensford Owusu and Luis Jaimes had an amazing run this weekend at the 112th Annual Ojai Tennis Tournament as they made it to the championship in doubles before losing in the finals in a very close match.
Owusu and Jaimes entered the tournament seeded fourth and won their first two matches in straight sets. In the quarter-finals the pair held off stiff competition to win the third and deciding set 12-10. In the semi-finals again Owusu and Jaimes were pushed to a third set and this time won easily in the third 10-2. In the Championship match the Eagle players rallied after losing the first set 4-6 to take the second 6-4. In the deciding set Owusu and Jaimes came up just short losing 10-8. In the championship the pair fell to Foothill Conference rivals from College of the Desert Joshua Banks and Parker Kelley. The four could meet up again on Tuesday as the Eagles travel to Palm Desert to take on COD in the Southern California Team Championship.
In singles competition over the weekend Owusu reached the quarter-finals before losing while Jaimes reached the round of 16.
Tuesday's match against College of the Desert will be played at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden beginning at 2 pm. The winner of Tuesday's match will play for the state championship against the Northern California Champion. The Eagles enter the match ranked #2 in Southern Cal while COD is ranked #1.
