Athletic Department Announces Three New Coaches

The MSJC Athletic Department has announced the hiring of three new head coaches within the department for the upcoming school year.  Kevin Pratte will take over the women’s volleyball duties, Pete Martinez will be the new men’s golf coach, and Anthony Chatfield takes over as head coach in men’s tennis.pratteforintro.jpg
Pratte comes to MSJC from Langston Hughes Academy in Stockton where he served as the Athletic Director and girls volleyball coach for the past two years.  Last season Pratte led Langston Hughes to their first CIF play-off appearance and was named the Mountain Valley League Coach of the Year.  Prior to his time at Langston Hughes, Pratte served as an assistant coach for the men’s volleyball team at the University of Pacific where he also played for four seasons from 2006-2009.  Pratte also spent one season as a graduate assistant coach in the women’s volleyball program at the University of Nebraska.

Martinez, a veteran of the coaching ranks, takes over the men’s golf program at MSJC.  Most recently Martinez has been an assistant golf coach at Hemet High.  During his three years assisting the Bulldogs program the team has twice qualified for the CIF play-offs and sent 6 individual players to the CIF meet.  Martinez has a long coaching history that includes being the head baseball coach at both San Jacinto and Banning High Schools.  Martinez earned conference coach of the year honors three times in his 13 years as a head high school coach.  Martinez has also worked with PGA teaching professional Jim Follingstad.
Chatfield will take over the Eagle men’s tennis program after being an assistant at the school for the past two seasons. Chatfield, who played tennis at UC Riverside from 1996-99, is currently the head tennis pro at Canyon Crest Country Club in Riverside.  Chatfield also coached for two seasons at Riverside Community College.
