Baseball Sweeps Coso; Wins Ninth in a Row
The MSJC baseball team swept a three game series against Cerro Coso this week to run their winning streak to 9 games.
Thursday the Eagles blasted the Coyotes in Ridgecrest by a score of 27-7. Joe Riley and David Ricker both scored 5 runs on the day and combined for 11 hits. Josh Peters picked up his seventh win of the season on the mound.
In Saturday's doubleheader the Eagles won game one 10-3 and followed it up with a 11-6 win in the nightcap. In game one Matt Palmer drove in 3 runs while Riley and catcher Brant Alonzo both added two. For the game the Eagles had 12 hits led by Ricker with 3. Ryan Clark was the winning pitcher going 5 innings and allowing 3 runs on 6 hits. Danny Borst finished the game with two shut out innings.
Saturday's second game saw the Eagles jump out to an 11-0 lead and hold on for the win. This time MSJC pounded out 16 hits with 10 different players collecting at least one. Riley and Randy Bruce both had two RBIs in the game and Palmer hit a solo homer in a 7 run fourth inning. Daniel Williamson got his first win of the season on the hill throwing six shut out innings. Borst once again came in to nail down the win going the final two innings.
With the sweep the Eagles are now 18-7-1 overall on the season and 9-5-1 in Foothill Conference play. MSJC is back in action on Thursday as they host San Bernardino Valley in a 2:30 game.
