The MSJC baseball team won two of three games over Spring Break, but saw their 12 game winning streak come to an end on Thursday. The Eagles defeated the state's number two ranked team Palomar on Tuesday and then beat San Diego Mesa on Wednesday. Wednesday's win pushed MSJC's winning streak to 12 before it was halted on Thursday in a rematch with Palomar.
Tuesday the Eagles rode the hot pitching arm of B.J. Salsbury to a 4-3 win. Salsbury is now 10-1 on the season after throwing a complete game allowing just 5 hits and striking out 10. Anthony Smith had two RBIs in the win while Garrett Caldwell and Jeff Bunch each picked up one. Bunch and Caldwell had two hits a piece. MSJC never trailed in the game building a 4-0 lead after six and a half innings before having to hold off the Comets in the ninth.
Wednesday's game at San Diego Mesa started slow for the Eagles as they fell behind 7-1 after four innings. MSJC rallied however to score six in the top of inning number five and four in the top of the ninth to win 12-8. The Eagles pounded out 18 hits in the game led by five from Bunch. Bunch also drove in three runs in the victory. John Eschleman added four hits and an RBI while Devin Greco had three hits and 3 runs driven in. Robert Byers picked up the win in relief after Jacob Negrete started the game and K.C. Campbell threw four strong innings in the middle.
In Thursday's rematch with Palomar the Eagles couldn't get their bats going and lost in a good game 6-3. Drew Madrigal suffered the loss on the mound dropping his season record to 7-3. Madrigal did have an RBI in the game as did Eschleman and Smith. The loss stopped the 12 game winning streak of MSJC and left the Eagles at 26-8 on the season.
MSJC, who is currently in first place in the Foothill Conference, returns to conference play this week as they take on College of the Desert in a three game series. Thursday the Eagles will host COD at 2:30 pm and Saturday MSJC travels to Palm Desert for a doubleheader starting at 12 pm.
