Basketball Play-Offs Start with Men at Home, Women on the Road

The MSJC men's and women's basketball teams will begin post season play this weekend in the CCCAA State play-offs with the men playing at home on Friday and the women on the road Saturday.samtradetech.jpg

The men's team who won their second straight Pacific Coast Athletic Conference North Division title and earned the #7 seed in Southern California will host Citrus College at 7 pm on Friday February 27th.  The Eagles finished the season by winning 10 of their final 11 games and ended the year with an overall record of 22-7.  MSJC has been led this season by PCAC North Player of the Year Samuel Williams who wrapped up the regular season as the State's top scorer.  Williams averaged 25.8 points per game and scored over 30 points nine times.  The Eagles beat Citrus ejohnettevssdcity.jpgarlier this season when the teams met at the San Diego City Tournament in November.  This is the fourth year in a row the Eagle men have started the play-offs with a home game.

The women's team fell just short of their third straight conference title and will travel to Bakersfield College on Saturday after earning the 11th seed in the Southern California Regional.  The Lady Eagles lost their final regular season game to snap an 11 game winning streak, MSJC ended the regular season with a 24-5 record.  The Lady Eagles had three players named First Team All Conference led by sophomore Johnette Brown who finished the season as the top scorer and rebounder for MSJC.  The women are making their 9th straight post season appearance.

Tickets for Friday night's men's game will be sold at the door, beginning at 5:30 and are $10 for General Admission, $7 for all identified students, faculty, staff, senior citizens age 60 and over, and children less than 12 years of age.
