Basketball Teams Sweep Antelope, Men Into First Place
The MSJC basketball teams swept Antelope Valley College Saturday to move the men's team into first place in the Foothill Conference and keep the women one game out in second place.
In the men's game Marc Wilson led the way with 21 points in an exciting overtime win featuring the top two teams in the conference. The win improved the Eagles to 26-4 overall and 10-2 in conference play while it dropped Antelope Valley to 9-3 in the league standings. Raymond Williams had his second straight big game as he scored 15 points and grabbed six rebounds. Lee Stephens added 14 and Tim Island 13 for MSJC who have now won six in a row. The Eagles dominated the first half going into the locker room up by 17, but AVC battled back to force overtime, before MSJC regained the lead and won it 78-75.
In the women's game the Lady Eagles defeated AVC for the third time this season. This time the final score was 62-56. Jasmine Nyx led the way with 19 points and 9 rebounds, while teammate Michelle Simmons added 13. The victory improved MSJC's record to 20-9 on the season and 12-2 in Foothill Conference play. The loss dropped AVC to 17-13 overall and 10-4 in the league.
Both teams are back in action Wednesday when they travel to Chaffey for a doubleheader. The women's game starts at 5 pm while the men will tip-off at 7 pm. Both teams will be home on Saturday February 23rd for their final regular season game when they host Rio Hondo at 1 and 3 pm.
