Basketball Teams Sweep Barstow

The men's and women's basketball teams picked up a pair of victories Wednesday against visiting Barstow College.

The men's game was close for one half, before the Eagles out scored the Vikings 50-34 in the second. Dejuan Flowers led the way at the offensive end for MSJC with 20 points. Joining him in double figures was Mark Williams (13), Tim Island (12), and Lee Stephens (10). The win pushed the Eagles record to 23-4 overall and 7-2 in conference play.

The Lady Eagles got off to a strong start in route to a 72-42 victory. MSJC's defense held Barstow to 11 first half points and went into the locker room with a 32-11 lead. Michelle Simmons led three Lady Eagles in double figures with 13 points. Jasmine Nyx added 12 while Dorinda Chaney came off the bench to score 10. The victory kept the Eagles tied with San Bernardino Valley for the top spot in the conference and improved their record to 18-8 overall and 10-1 in conference action.

Both teams will be back in action Saturday when they travel to San BernardinoMarc Wilsono for a doubleheader at 1 and 3 pm with the women playing first.
