Basketball Teams Swept by Chaffey
The MSJC men's and women's basketball teams both suffered defeats Wednesday at Chaffey.
In the men's game the Eagles dropped into a first place tie with a 104-96 overtime loss. MSJC led by 10 at the half, but the Panthers were able to comeback behind great shooting. For the game Chaffey shot 55% from the floor including 40% from the three point line. The Eagles who also shot very well were 49% from the floor and 45% from beyond the arc. Lee Stephens led all scorers in the game with a career high 32 points, while Raymond Williams added 16 points and 6 assists. Mark Williams recorded 13 points and 9 assists and Dejuan Flowers added 10 points 11 rebounds for MSJC. The Eagles are now in a four way tie for first place in the conference with one regular season remaining. MSJC's record now stands at 25-6 overall and 9-4 in Foothill Conference action.
In the women's game Chaffey took control of the game early and won 61-49. Michelle Simmons tried to get the Lady Eagles back in the game scoring 15 of her game high 18 points in the second half, but the Panthers made enough shots to stay ahead. Jasmine Nyx also reached double figures with 10 points. With the loss the Lady Eagles dropped to 20-10 on the season and 12-3 in conference. With one regular season game remaining MSJC is alone in second place in the conference, one game ahead of Chaffey and Antelope Valley.
Both teams play their final regular season game on Saturday February 23rd when they host Rio Hondo. The women's game is set to tip-off at 1 pm with the men to follow at 3 pm.
