Brand New Tennis Team Kicks Off the Season
The MSJC women's tennis team kicked off the 2008 season on January 31st with all six players competing in college matches for the first time.
Coach Ted Lloyd's band of freshmen lost their opening match to Fullerton 8-1, but many of the matches were very tightly contested. According to Lloyd, "There were lots of nerves to overcome, and that's what these practice matches are for." Yesina Lozano, who had played only double matches in high school, picked up the lone Lady Eagles victory in the #2 singles match.
Tuesday against Southwestern MSJC dropped a tightly contested match 6-3. The Lady Eagles got a big day from Melissa Valdez who picked up a singles victory and teamed with Cristina Garcia to pick up a doubles win. Lozano and Michelle Escamilla also claimed a victory in a doubles match. "The MSJC ladies were particularly impressive in doubles, becoming more relaxed and and playing the games I know they can play," said Lloyd.
The Lady Eagles are back in action Thursday February 7th when they host Cuyamaca at Valleywide at 2 pm.
