Eagle Athletics Find Success During 2007-08
The MSJC Athletic Department concluded another successful run through the 2007-08 school year with two teams winning conference titles and a number of others having strong seasons.
The men's tennis and men's basketball teams both won conference championships, while the women's basketball team finished second this season and the softball and volleyball teams both placed third in the conference standings. The women's soccer team and the men's baseball team both also had winning records during this past year.
The men's tennis team set numerous school records en route to a 19-4 season making it to the Southern California Regional Semi-Finals. They set the school record for victories as well as picking up their first ever play-off win. The men's basketball team finished with a very strong 26-7 record and spent a few weeks as the state's top ranked team. The women's basketball team finished at 21-11 and qualified for the play-offs for the second straight season. The baseball team finished strong to end the season at 25-19 while the soccer team wrapped up the year at 10-7-5.
Many individual awards were also earned during the year. Twenty three Eagle athletes were named first team all conference with many more earning second team and honorable mention status. Taylor Witt of the men's tennis team won the individual conference title, Michelle Simmons from the women's basketball team was the conference MVP, and Allie Brandt from the softball team was the conference's utility player of the year. Tim Island from the men's basketball team was named first team All State. Ted Lloyd the coach of the Lady Eagles tennis team also garnered Coach of the Year honors leading the team to a fourth place conference finish.
