Reggie Howard, an assistant coach for the MSJC men's basketball team over the past year and a half has been named the Head Coach at Barstow College.
Howard, who's resume also includes stops at Cal State San Bernardino, UC RIverside, and Long Beach State, will be a head coach at the college level for the first time. "MSJC was an excellent learning experience for me, I learned from a lot of good people both coaching wise and in the administration," said Howard. "I'm going to miss the opportunity to be part of something special this year, but I hope to help build something special of my own here at Barstow." "I just want to thank everybody at Mt. San Jacinto for treating me like a family member, I feel honored and privileged to have had the opportunity," added Howard.
Eagles Head Coach Patrick Springer thinks the opportunity for Howard is a good one although he will be missed. "Reggie gave us some valuable experience with his background in Division I and Division II basketball, he complimented our existing staff very well," said Springer. "He was very valuable in recruiting and helping our players gain scholarships.
The Eagles will see Coach Howard at least twice this season since the Barstow Vikings are also a member of the Foothill Conference. "No matter what his personnel is this year I know he'll have a team that competes and plays hard, because that's what he will demand of them," added Springer. "He demanded that of our guys as an assistant so I'm sure that won't change."
Coach Howard began his post in Barstow on Monday (Sept. 22).
