Eagles Climb Back to Top of Polls
The MSJC men's basketball team wrapped up their non conference schedule this past Sunday winning the championship of their own Hemet Valley Kiwanis Holiday Tournament and improved to 16-2 on the season.
The 16-2 mark is the second best start in school history and the Eagles are currently ranked #1 in Southern California and #2 in the state behind San Francisco City College. In addition to Sunday's title the Eagles also won the championship at the Palomar Tournament earlier this season and their only two losses have come at the hands of the state's 5th and 11th ranked teams, Fullerton and Ventura. The Eagles avenged their loss to Fullerton a week after suffering their first defeat of the season.
The Eagles success has been led by a balanced attack with a number of players leading the way on any given night. Sophomore Tim Island leads four players averaging double figures scoring at 16 points per game. Sophomores Dejuan Flowers and Lee Stephens along with freshman Mark Williams are the other three. Freshmen guards Raymond Williams and Marc Wilson average just under 10 a game for MSJC.
MSJC kicks off the conference season when they host Victor Valley College on Saturday at 3 pm. The Foothill Conference currently has three teams ranked in the top 15 in Southern California.
