Eagles Fall in Opener at Saddleback

The MSJC baseball team opened their season Tuesday with a 4-1 loss at Saddleback.

Eagles starting pitcher Brian Lewis was forced out of the game in the second inning when he was hit by a line drive. Three MSJC relievers combined for 7 innings and allowed just 3 runs 2 earned. The Eagles jumped ahead in the top of the second inning when first baseman Josh Barry connected on a solo homer to right field. Saddleback tied the game up in the bottom of the second and added a single run in the 5th to lead 2-1.

The score remained 2-1 until the bottom of the 8th when Saddleback added 2 insurance runs for the final of 4-1. Barry finished the game with 2 of the Eagles 7 hits on the day. Returning all conference performer Bryant Veiga also added 2 hits for MSJC. Reliever Tyler Breault took the loss for the Eagles pitching 3 1/3 innings allowing 3 runs, 2 earned, on 4 hits and 2 walks.

The Eagles jump right back into action today (Jan. 30th) when they travel to Riverside to take on RCC at 2 pm.
