The MSJC football team will host College of the Desert Saturday September 20th at 1 pm in the 42nd Annual Palms to Pines Trophy game.
The game also marks the 2008 home opener for the Eagles. Desert was victorious in last year's game 38-11, but the Eagles still hold an 8-2 advantage in the series over the past 10 seasons and an overall record of 24-18 between the two teams. "The kids know this is a rivalry game," said MSJC head coach Casey Mazzotta, "We battle these guys in recruiting all the time so we definitely want to make a good showing."
MSJC comes into the game at 0-2 on the season while the Roadrunners are 2-0 and ranked #14 in the state. The Eagles have played Chaffey and Saddleback thus far, while COD has played San Bernardino Valley and Grossmont.
The Eagles have been led early in the season by the play of wide receiver Courtney Pete, who has caught three touchdown passes and thrown for one. Running back Deshaun Smith, from San Jacinto High, ran for over 100 yards last week at Saddleback. "Desert plays a style of football that is a lot different than Saddleback", said Mazzotta "It's more straight forward football and they are very physical and we are going to need to be able to match that."
