Eagles Run Past Compton for First Win

The MSJC football team controlled the line of scrimmage on their way to a 27-2 win over visiting Compton College on Saturday afternoon.

The Eagle offense had a season high 262 rushing yards and had 463 total on the afternoon. MSJC jumped out in front with 8:28 to go in the first quarter when Franex Dort raced 15 yards for a touchdown. Jameson Schultz added the extra point and the Eagles were off and runChris Chamberlinning with a 7-0 lead. With under 5 minutes left in the half the Eagles added their second TD of the day when Courtney Pete hit Chris Chamberlin for the first of Chamberlin's two touchdowns on the day. Esau Bauknight added a third quarter score when he took a Carmen Boyer pass 54 yards down the sidelines.

The MSJC defense didn't allow a score all afternoon and held Compton to 183 yards of total offense. Compton's only points of the day came on a blocked extra point that was returned for two points. C.J. Ceniza had an interception and fumble recovery on the day. Clarence Laster had 9.5 tackles while Chad Hansen picked up 7.5. Fontayne Fuga made the most of his 4 tackles as three were tackles for a loss.

Dort led the rushing game with 20 carries for 120 yards while DeMarcus White added 54 yards on 8 carries. The Eagles quarterbacks combined to go 14 of 25 for 201 yards. Pete completed 8 of 12 passes for 57 yards while Boyer was 6 for 13 for 144 yards.

The win improves the Eagles to 1-4 on the season and 1-1 in Mountain Conference action. MSJC will take next week off before taking on Southwestern on October 17th at Carl Quandt Stadium. Kick off on the 17th is set for 1 pm.
