Eagles Split First Two at San Diego City

The MSJC men's basketball team split the first two games of the Knights Invitational at San Diego City College Friday and Saturday losing to Napa Valley 71-67 and defeating Grossmont 101-88. Saturday's win over Grossmont sets up a game today with tournament host San Diego City at 1 pm.

In Friday's loss the Eagles were led in scoring by D.J. Wright who had 27 points and 9 rebounds. Eric Lawton, out of Hemet West Valley, had 14 points and 6 rebounds. MSJC struggled shooting on Friday while Napa Valley was able to make 12 three point baskets in the victory.

In Saturday's game Wright again led the way, but he had plenty of help as the Eagles got five guys into double digits on their way to the win. Wright had 26 to go along with 10 rebounds while Shenon Johannes added 18 and 5 assists. Point guard D'Andre Williams helped spark the Eagles to a quick start scoring 12 of his season high 14 points in the first half. Lawton once again reached double figures with 13 points and Tykie Harris chipped in with 11. Dakota Downs added 8 points and 9 rebounds. The Eagles now stand at 3-2 going into this afternoon's contest with San Diego City.
