Mt San Jacinto had 3 players compete last friday at the California State Tennis Championships @ El Dorado Country Club in Long Beach. Taylor Witt represented MSJC in singles action, seeded #8 from the south he played a grueling and hard fought 3 set match against #1 North Seed Nico Ernst from Fresno City College...after losing the 1st set 6-1 Taylor fought back to take the second set 6-2 to even the match at a set a piece. Unfortunately, Witt could not hold serve at 5-6 and was broken to end the match at 7-5. Nevertheles, it was a fitting end to an excellent season for the Pacific Coast Conference Champion whom had one of the best seasons ever representing the eagles.
Dan Nguyen-Huu and Francisco Alvarado represented MSJC in doubles action seeded #7 from the southern section they faced a very tough #2 north team representing American River College, John Spoerl and Rusty White. After winning the 1st set 6-4, Nguyen and Alvarado seemed to be in control of the match serving at 5-4 but could not convert 2 match points. Momentum swung in huge favor towards the American River duo and they ended up taking the 2nd set 7-5. After trading a couple of service breaks the American River team held serve and took the 3rd set by a score of 6-3.
Overall it was an excellent season including a Conference Championship and a first ever state playoff victory and run to the state team regional semis. Congratulations goes out to all players and coaches on the 2008 season.
