The MSJC football team had their biggest offensive outing of the season, but it wasn't enough as they lost 42-33 to San Diego Mesa College on Saturday at Carl Quandt Stadium.
Mesa came out fast jumping out to a 21-0 lead before MSJC got a spark from their defense. The Eagles got on the board when defensive back Clarence Laster picked up an Olympians fumble and ran 99 yards for a touchdown. Laster's score cut Mesa's lead to 21-7 and two touchdown passes later to Stephen Harrison the Eagles had cut the halftime deficit to 28-21.
MSJC however could not keep Mesa out of the end zone in the second half and despite some solid individual performances the Eagles came up short. Daniel Chamberlain caught 4 passes on the afternoon for 165 yards, while Deshaun Smith rushed for 83 yards and picked up 78 yards receiving. The Eagles used three quarterbacks on the day, Collin Wigely finished the day with 192 yards and two touchdowns through the air. Courtney Pete completed 6 of his 8 passes for 79 yards.
The loss dropped the Eagles to 0-4 on the season and 0-1 in Mountain Conference play. MSJC is back in action Saturday when they travel to Compton for a 1 pm game.
