Golfers Solidify Spots in Day One of Conference Tourney
Mt. San Jacinto College opened the first day of Foothill Conference Finals by solidifying their position for individual qualifications at the Southern California Regionals next week, which is the play-in qualifier to the State Tournament the following week. The Lady Eagles traveled to Lake San Marcos Country Club in San Marcos hosted by the Comets of Palomar College and played a track with fast, sloping, and true rolling greens meshed into a bumper pool style layout on a beautiful, sunny, warm day.
Sophomore Kathryn New, although greatly disappointed with her poorest showing of the year with a round of 87, firmly established herself as one of the top five linksters in the Foothill Conference with a scoring average placing her tied for 3rd and just over ½ stroke out of 2nd place. Additionally, New remained nearly 4 average strokes ahead of her closest trailing competitor.
Freshman Katelyn Hardy, battling a fever, cold, and sore throat, carded a 97 to put herself into a 7th place tie as an individual in the Foothill Conference. Hardy’s scoring average is currently nearly 5 strokes better than the 12th and final spot to qualify out of the Foothill Conference for the Southern California Regionals next week at Los Serranos Country Club, in Chino Hills.
Only two ladies broke 80 on the first of two days of the Foothill Conference Finals. Palomar College Jessica Milner was the first day medalist with a 76. New, Hardy, and the rest of the 24 women field will be back at it on the final day of the Foothill Conference Finals on Tuesday, November 3, 2009. Tee time is 9:00 a.m.
