Hoops Teams Pick Up Weekend Sweep

The MSJC men's team opened pursuit of the Foothill Conference title Saturday with a 100-72 victory over visiting Victor Valley College. The women's team defeated Cerro Coso to move to 2-0 in conference play and 10-7 overall.

The men's game saw the Eagles jump out to a big first half lead behind the hot shooting of Tim Island who connected on five three point shots on his way to a game high 24 points. Dejuan Flowers narrowly missed a double double with 18 points and 9 rebounds. Mark Williams (17), Lee Stephens ((15), and Raymond Williams (10) also added double digit scoring as the Eagles shot nearly 50% for the game. The Eagles who remain ranked #1 in Southern California and #2 in the state improved their record to 17-2 overall and 1-0 in league play. MSJC is back in action when they travel to Barstow Wednesday Jan. 9th for a 7 pm game.

In the women's contest the Lady Eagles aggressive man to man defense held it's second straight opponent under 40 points as they stayed unbeaten in conference play. Jasmine Nyx led the offense with 16 points while Michelle Simmons added 12 and Tanisha Battle 11. The Lady Eagles will also travel to Barstow on Wednesday Jan. 9th for a 5 pm game.

Both teams return home Saturday afternoon Jan. 12th to take on San Bernardino Valley with the women's game to be at 1 pm and the men's at 3 pm.
