Lady Eagles Tennis Shuts Out Imperial Valley 9-0
As the MSJC womens tennis team hosted Imperial Valley Tues at home, they recently had some extremely close losses under their belt which left a bad taste, apparently. The Lady Eagles came out slugging and disposed of the opponents in a very short time Tuesday, without allowing IVC a single point in singles or doubles to win the match 9 to 0.
Leading the team in the number one position was Michelle Escamilla, winning in that position 6-0,6-0. The next three singles followed suit with each of the postions 2, 3 and 4 being made up of Yesenia Lozano, Melissa Valdez and Cristina Garcia each having 6-0 sets in their quiver. Imperial had to default the 5 and 6 singles to MSJC, while the top two MSJC doubles teams won 10-2 and 10-0 respectively. Third doubles was also defaulted by IVC. Coach Ted Lloyd is seeing the nerves starting to leave and the determination kicking in. Lloyd mentions "Their abilities are starting to really shine through, and this looks like it's going to be a very different season than last year. Assistant coach Carlos Sanchez and I are getting excited about the conference matches coming up in March." "The team is very teachable this year and the coaching staff is seeing some real improvement in just the last couple of weeks."
The Lady Eagles go to San Diego Mesa College Thursday 2/14 for a Valentines Day hitfest looking for their first away victory to continue the upward momentum.
