Yesenia Lozano, Nicole Lessley, Cristina Garcia, and Brittany Henderson represented MSJC at the 109th Ojai Tennis Tournament this past weekend. Play started on Thursday with Nicole Lessley defeating Rebecca Su of Mt. San Antonio College 6-3, 6-3. Yesenia Lozano played singles but was defeated in a close match by Alana Johnson of Cerritos College 6-3, 6-4.
Lessley moved on to the round of 64 and defeated Nicole El-Ali of Cypress College 6-0, 6-1. In doubles, Garcia/Henderson played a very tough match against Bakersfield's number one team, Dickerson/Dickerson. The points were excellent displays of strategy and placement, however, Garcia/Henderson fell 6-2, 6-3. Lozano/Lessley won the round of 64 against Langois/Schmedes of Cabrillo College 6-3, 7-6 (4).
It was a team goal to be representing MSJC through the second day and the women met their goal. Lessley started the day playing singles in the round of 32 before falling to a hard-hitting Brittanie Miller 6-1, 6-3. Lessley played very well and her daily improvement showed against her singles opponents.
Doubles started in the afternoon, where Lozano/Lessley were able to dominate Aguilar/Ebrahimi of Glendale College 6-3, 6-1. The round of 16 was against Gonzalez/Justin of Reedley College. The points were really exciting and the improvement of MSJC was very apparent in the second set. They were able to execute their strategy a lot better. Unfortunately, the power of Gonzalez/Justin was too much and Lozano/Lessley fell 6-1, 6-4.
Overall, this was a historic weekend for Mt. San Jacinto Tennis. Each student-athlete proudly represented their school.
The next road trip is to Orange Coast College to play individual regionals. Play starts at 9 am on Thursday.
