MSJC Women Set for State Quarter-Final

The MSJC women's basketball team will take a 29-2 record into the State Final Eight beginning on Thursday in Ventura when they take on College of the Sequoias at 7 pm.delacyforstatepreview-18.jpg

Thursday's game and all of the games of the CCCAA State Tournament will be played at Ventura College and can be viewed live on SoCalCollegeSports for free at the link below.

The Lady Eagles advanced to the State Final Eight with two impressive home wins over Pasadena City College 81-46 and El Camino College 81-67 after receiving a bye in the tournament's first round.  MSJC has reached the State's Elite Eight three of the last six years and two of the last three, but have not moved past the State quarter-finals since 2013.  In 2013 the Lady Eagles reached the State Championship game before coming up just short of the title.

MSJC has been led in scoring by a trio of players this season; Britney Thomas, Delacy Brown, and Kaila Gower.  Thomas, who was named the CCCAA Southern California State Player of the Year, is averaging 21.3 points per game as well as a team best 14.4 rebounds per contest.  Delacy Brown, a 2nd Team All-State selection for the second year in a row, will enter the State Tournament averaging 19.1 points, 7 rebounds, and a team high 4.6 assists per game.  Gower who was named First Team All Conference in the PCAC is averaging 12 points and over 6 rebounds a game.  Carla Johnson also a First Team All PCAC selection is averaging 7 points  while 2nd Team All PCAC pick Madeline Morrow comes in at 5.4 points and 3 assists per contest.

College of the Sequoias comes into the State Tournament with an impressive 28-3 record.  Their balanced offense is led by Zharia McCollum who is averaging 11 points per game on the year.

The winners of Thursday's quarter-finals will face off in the State Final Four on Saturday afternoon and the State Championship game will be played Sunday at 1 pm.
