Men's Basketball Kicks Off Friday

The MSJC men's basketball team opens the season this Friday when they travel to San Francisco to play in the Tip-off Classic.

The Eagles who are coming off a 26-7 season in which they won the Foothill Conference title will open play in the tournament Friday afternoon at 2 pm against Canada College. Also featured in the eight team field are two of the top teams from Northern2008 victory California, Fresno City College and City College of San Francisco.

The Eagles come into the year led by the guard play of returning starter Mark Williams and Ball State transfer Melvin Goins. Williams averaged over 10 points a game last season as a freshman and Goins comes to MSJC after being named to the All Mid-American Conference freshman team a year ago. Joining these two in the back court is a deep and talented group of newcomers including; Shenon Johannes a 6-3 shooting guard from Brooklyn, New York, Curtis Bush a 6-2 swing man from San Clemente, and Cameron Glover, a 6-1 shooting guard from Lakeside High School. Up front the Eagles have a new cast of talented players as well including former Perris High standout Jeffrey West, 6-6 and two players from Nottingham England Dan Watts 6-6 and Sam O'Shea 6-7.

All of this weekend's games will be broadcast on the Eagle Radio Network. Air time on Friday is 1:40 pm for the pre-game show with tip-off set for 2 pm.

The Eagles first home game of the season is next Friday November 14th when they host last year's state runners-up Fullerton College at 7 pm. On Saturday the 15th the Eagles host Riverside Community College also at 7 pm.

The Eagles hope that the 2008-09 season will give the fans plenty to cheer about.
