Comeback Falls Just Short for MSJC Softball

The MSJC softball team scored four runs in the top of the seventh, but needed one more as their comeback fell just short against Southwestern in a 5-4 loss in Chula Vista.isabel2014.jpeg

Isabel Castellanos drove in a pair of runs and Gabby Sanchez and Laekyn Causey each drove in one in the top of the seventh for the Lady Eagles, before Brianna Conser came in to get the final out for Southwestern and earn the save.  MSJC had only three hits in the game, but a strong effort from pitcher Lauren Partnoff kept the Lady Eagles in the game.  Partnoff allowed just 7 hits and all five of the Jaguars runs were unearned as they scored three in the bottom of the third and two in the bottom of the sixth capitalizing on two Lady Eagle errors.

Alejandra Navarro, Lindsey Lashook, and Castellanos each had a hit for the Lady Eagles while Sanchez earned her way on base with two walks.

The loss drops MSJC to 14-19 overall on the season and 3-10 in Pacific Coast Athletic Conference play while Southwestern improved to 20-14 and 8-5.  The Lady Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Palomar at 3 pm in Menifee.
