Grossmont Edges Lady Eagles in Softball
Grossmont got off to a fast start on Friday and then held on to beat the MSJC softball team 6-3 in a Pacific Coast Athletic Conference game in Menifee.
The Griffons took an early 3-0 lead when they scored two runs in the top of the first and one in the second. The Lady Eagles scored a run in the bottom of the third to cut into the lead, but Grossmont responded with a run in the top of the fifth. The closest MSJC would make the game was after the fifth when they cut the lead to 4-3 by scoring twice in the inning, but they couldn't get any closer as the Griffons added two in the top of the sixth to secure the victory.
Nicole Stressling had a strong game for the Lady Eagles going 2 for 3 at the plate and scoring two runs. Jordan Sage also had a pair of hits and an RBI. Sierra Falcon had two hits in the loss and Jena Chilson drove in a run. Chilson was the losing pitcher for MSJC on the day, she went 4 and 1/3 innings allowing 4 earned runs.
The loss gives the Lady Eagles a season record of 20-17, they are 7-9 in PCAC games. Grossmont improved to 25-10-1 overall and 10-5 in conference play.
MSJC has two regular season games remaining, with the first being Wednesday on the Menifee Campus at 1 pm against Imperial Valley. The Lady Eagles will wrap up the regular season on April 26th when they travel to Chula Vista to take on Southwestern.
