Lady Eagle Softball Team Falls in Last Inning

The MSJC softball team lost in dramatic fashion on Wednesday as Grossmont scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning in a Pacific Coast Athletic Conference game played in El alyssaraylsgmont2-16.jpg

Grossmont scored in the bottom of the 2nd inning to take a 1-0 lead, before the Lady Eagles came back to score twice in the top of the 4th to take the lead.  Angie Lopez and Alyssa Rayls hit back to back doubles in the fourth and each picked up an RBI to give MSJC the lead.  Lopez's double drove home Sam Munoz, and then Rayls hit scored Lopez.  The Griffons were able to tie the game in the bottom of the 4th with an unearned run and the game would remain deadlocked at 2-2 until the bottom of the 7th.  Grossmont scored the winning run when Katie Schmidt doubled home Jessica Rubio.

Jordan Sage took the loss in the circle for the Lady Eagles despite pitching six plus strong innings.  Sage allowed just two earned runs on 7 hits while walking 4 and striking out 4.  Munoz and Lopez each finished with two hits a piece for MSJC as the Lady Eagles also had 7 total hits in the game.

The loss drops the Lady Eagles record on the season to 15-12 overall they are 5-5 in PCAC play while Grossmont improved to 20-8-1 on the season and 6-3 in conference games.  MSJC will be back in action on Friday when they travel to Imperial Valley for a 1 pm game.
