Lady Eagle Softball Team Picks up PCAC Victory
The MSJC softball team won a low scoring contest on Wednesday in Menifee to pick up their first Pacific Coast Athletic Conference victory of 2016 with a 2-1 win over visiting San Diego City.
The Lady Eagles and the Knights were locked in a pitcher's duel for the first five innings as neither team could score a run. In the top of the 6th the Knights finally broke through for their first and only run of the game when Ivana Gonzalez was able to drive in Teyonna Clady with an RBI single. MSJC quickly responded in the bottom of the inning when Jordan Sage and Jena Chilson each drove in a run on consecutive at bats to grab the lead. Sage hit an RBI single to score Nicole Stressling and Chilson followed with a double to drive home Sage. That would be all Chilson needed on the mound as MSJC kept the Knights off the board in the top of the 7th for the win.
Chilson finished the game as the winning pitcher. She went all 7 innings, walking 3 and striking out 3, while giving up 9 hits, but just the one run. Sage ended her day with 2 hits in 3 at bats.
The win improved MSJC's overall record on the season to 11-6, they move to 1-2 in PCAC action. San Diego City fell to 8-9 overall and 1-2 in conference play. The Lady Eagles will be back at home on Friday when they host Grossmont College in a 3 PM contest on the Menifee Campus.
