The MSJC softball team overcame a 3-0 deficit by scoring four runs in the bottom of the fifth and three more in the sixth to defeat visiting Grossmont 7-3 Wednesday in Menifee.hannahrivasforgmont-17.jpg

The Lady Eagles fell behind right away as Grossmont's Sophia Sahagun hit a solo homerun in the top of the first inning.  The Griffons would tack on two more runs in the top of the fourth to build their lead to 3-0 before MSJC roared back.  In the bottom of the fifth MSJC started their comeback when Hannah Rivas drove a double down the left field line scoring Klarissa Garcia.  Savanah Ruiz added an RBI on misplayed bunt to cut the lead to one before Natalia LeDesma evened the score at 3-3 with an RBI double to left center.  The Lady Eagles would take the lead when LeDesma scored on a Grossmont error off the bat of Jordan Sage.  MSJC then built on their 4-3 lead in the bottom of the sixth when Amanda Escalera had an RBI single and then once again LeDesma came up big as she drove in two more with a single to center.

The Lady Eagles had 8 hits on the day as Rivas, Ruiz, and LeDesma each had two a piece.  LeDesma was also the winning pitcher in the game as she went the distance allowing just 3 runs on 9 hits, she struck out one and walked two.  MSJC's defense was solid in the victory as they committed no errors in the game.

The win pushed the Lady Eagles record to 14-15 overall on the season, they improved to 5-8 in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference.  Grossmont's loss moves their record to 18-14 overall and they fell to 9-3 in PCAC games.

MSJC will be back in action on Friday when they host Imperial Valley on the Menifee Campus.  Friday's game is set to begin at 1 pm.
