MSJC Softball Picks Up Win over SBVC
The MSJC softball team used a strong pitching and fielding effort on Friday to pick up a Pacific Coast Athletic Conference win at home over San Bernardino Valley 6-2 in Menifee.
The Eagles jumped out to a 6-0 lead as they scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning and four in the bottom of the third to take control of the game. Savanah Ruiz and Brittni Heath picked up first inning RBIs to get MSJC off to the fast start. In the third it was three consecutive singles that broke the game open. Kaylee McCaskey and Arianna Laramie each drove in a run with a base hit and then Nana Davidson drove in two with another Eagle single to push MSJC out to the 6-0 lead.
The pitching of Alexis Holler took over from there as she went six innings allowing just one earned run. Holler gave up just four hits and struck out a pair while not giving up a walk. Ruby Gonzalez came in to finish the game with a scoreless 7th inning of work.
Davidson finished the day going 4 for 4 at the plate while Ruiz, Sierra Yagle, and McCaskey all had two hits each. Arianna Abarca scored two runs for MSJC in the win.
The victory improved the Eagles to 13-17 overall on the season they are 3-7 in PCAC games. San Bernardino fell to 11-17 overall and 3-6 in league contests. MSJC will be back in action twice this week with a road contest on Wednesday at San Diego City and a home game Friday against Southwestern. Wednesday's game will start at 3 and Friday's first pitch will be at 1 pm in Menifee.
