MSJC Softball Wins in Final at Bat
The MSJC softball team scored the winning run in the top of the 7th inning on Friday as they beat San Diego Mesa 4-3 in a Pacific Coast Athletic Conference game in San Diego.
The Lady Eagles jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but quickly relinquished it by giving up two runs in the bottom half. MSJC was able to tie the game up by scoring single runs in the top of the fourth and fifth, before scoring the winning run in the top of the 7th.
Ashley Brown scored two of the Lady Eagles four runs and also went 2 for 2 at the plate in the victory. Jordan Sage and Angie Lopez also each had two hits for MSJC. Sage, Sam Munoz, and Nicole Stressling each had an RBI. Jena Chilson picked up the pitching victory for the Lady Eagles to improve her season record to 11-6. Chilson went all 7 innings for MSJC allowing just 2 earned runs on 7 hits, while striking out 2 and walking just 1.
The win improved the Lady Eagles overall record to 20-15 on the year and 7-7 in PCAC contests. Mesa fell to 20-11 overall and 7-6 in PCAC play. MSJC will be back in action on Wednesday when they host San Diego City on the Menifee Campus. First pitch on Wednesday is set for 3 pm.
