Softball Team's Comeback Falls Short
The MSJC softball team rallied to make it a close game on Wednesday, but came up on the short end of a Pacific Coast Athletic Conference game against San Diego City 7-5.
The Lady Eagles fell behind 5-0 after two innings, but made a game out of it when they scored twice in the bottom of the third to cut the lead to 3-2 in Menifee. The Knights would score single runs in the top of the 4th and 6th innings to push the lead to 7-2, but MSJC made one more run at it by scoring three times in the bottom of the 6th. The Lady Eagles got a runner on with one out in the bottom of the 7th, but couldn't push anyone across the plate.
Ashley Brown had a strong game at the plate for the Lady Eagles going 2 for 4 with a homerun and 2 RBIs. Jordan Sage had a team high 3 hits on the afternoon, while Angie Lopez and Sierra Falcon each had one hit.
Jena Chilson took the loss in the circle for MSJC, as she threw all 7 innings allowing 4 earned runs on 7 hits. Chilson walked 4 and struck out 4 in the game.
The loss drops MSJC to 20-16 overall on the season and 7-8 in conference play, while San Diego City improved to 14-18 overall and 5-10 in PCAC games. The Lady Eagles have just three games remaining in the regular season and will play at home on the Menifee Campus Friday at 3 pm when they host Grossmont.
