Softball Team Falls to Defending State Champs
The MSJC softball team hung tough for three innings before eventually falling to the defending state champions Palomar College on Wednesday 9-0 in Menifee.
The Lady Eagles got a strong defensive start to the game as Rayna Winters held the Comets scoreless through the first three innings. Palomar would finally break through in the top of the fourth as they rallied to score 6 runs before that tacked on 3 more in the top of the fifth to win it. Winters finished the day throwing 3 and 2/3 innings allowing 6 runs on 5 hits. Lauren Partnoff came on in relief and threw the final inning and a third surrendering 3 runs on 5 hits.
Isabel Castellanos got a hit for the Lady Eagles in the first inning, but it would be the only hit of the day for MSJC as she was stranded at first base. The only other MSJC player to reach base in the game was Lindsey Lashook in the second when she reached on a Palomar error. Lashook stole second, but was left on at the end of the inning.
The loss evens the Lady Eagles record on the season at 7-7, they are 0-2 in Pacific Coast Athletic Conference play. The Comets improved to 7-1 and 3-0 in conference play. MSJC returns to action Friday when they travel to San Diego Mesa for a 3 pm game.
